Types of ion exchange resins

Ion exchange resins are roughly classified as follows according to the type of exchange group.

1.Ion exchange resin for water treatment
Tap water and well water that come into contact with us on a daily basis look transparent and clean, but they contain cations and anions. Ion exchange resins remove these components from water and purify them.

Soft wateruse
Water containing a large amount of calcium and magnesium is called hard water, and water from which these ions have been removed is called soft water. Strong acid cationic resin is used to replace hard water with soft water. When the exchange capacity becomes saturated, it is regenerated with salt and used repeatedly. Soft water is used for boiler water, cleaning water, salt water, etc. 

For pure water
A strong acidic cation resin and a strong basic anion resin are used to produce complete water, that is, pure water by removing ionized electrolytes in water.
■ Double floor type ■
 By passing in series in the order of strong acid cationic resin → strong basic anionic resin to obtain pure water.
 Ion removal rate is 90-99%
■ Mixed floor type ■
 A strong acid cationic resin and a strong basic anion resin are filled in the same ion exchange tower (cylinder) and mixed uniformly for use. Regeneration is hydrochloric acid and mixed bed type and mixed bed type, respectively.
Do with caustic soda. It is used for electonics cleaning water, plating cleaning water, food water, etc. 

For ultrapure water
Ultrapure water is made from mixed-bed cartridge type water purifier with water that has passed through pretreatment (activated carbon, RO, EDI, ion exchange resin deionizer, etc.). Ultrapure water, as the name implies, is extremely pure water. The resin is the same as that used in the normal mixed bed type, but high purity is required, so a strong basic anion resin with less TOC elution is used. Ultrapure water is used for electronics-related water, glass, lens cleaning water, pharmaceutical water, etc. 
2. Ion exchange resin for wastewater treatment
Ion exchange resin removes harmful ions in wastewater below the wastewater standard so that they can be discharged, and can be purified and reused (recycled).It is also used to collect useful materials in wastewater. The ion exchange resin used differs depending on the type of ion contained.  
3. Chelate resin
It is a resin that has the function of selectively capturing and separating specific metal ions by forming a chelate bond from a liquid containing metal ions.

● Adsorption and removal of boric acid
● Adsorption and removal of hydrofluoric acid
● Adsorption removal of hardness in salt water  
4. Ion exchange resin for wire electric discharge machine
The ion exchange resin used in the wire discharge processing machine is a mixed bed type of strong acid cationic resin and strong basic anion resin.
The resin used here is not regenerated because it contains a lot of impurities.
